52nd Annual Pancake Feed Has Fewer Lumps -  2/14/2010

Irene Burkhardt didn’t have to wait long Saturday for the syrupy sweetness of the Kiwanis Pancake Karnival to wash away the sour taste left over from last year’s event.

“Last year was a zoo. Terrible,” said the 85-year-old retired nurse who hasn’t missed the Fargo feed during its 52-year run.

She and her daughter, Pam Burkhardt, 62, had a far more favorable critique of this year’s pancake feed, the goal of Kiwanis members who learned tough lessons from the long lines that plagued last year’s

Kiwanis Club of Fargo Donation to Fargo Post 2 Baseball League -  12/21/2009

The Kiwanis Club of Fargo has recently donated $3,000 to the Fargo Post 2 Baseball League to assist in restoring the Jack Williams Stadium after the spring flood.  Kiwanis President Burley Barnett hands representatives of the Fargo Post 2 Baseball League a check.

Jack Williams Stadium found itself on the wrong side of the dike this spring and was flooded with 17 feet of water on the field.  The water at its peak was 9 inches below the score

Kiwanis awards grants for youth projects -  8/15/2009

The Fargo Kiwanis Club has awarded grants to the following organization’s youth-related projects:

  • YMCA Camp Cormorant, $2,000
  • Lutheran Social Services Youth Court, $1,500
  • Fraser Ltd. Stepping Stones, $1,500
  • MeritCare Children’s Hospital Life Specialist, $1,000
  • Project Night-Light Bags of Hope, $500.

 

 



Federal Judge Being Honored Thursday -  5/7/2009

The North Dakota Association for Justice is honoring U.S. District Court Judge Rodney Webb with the Light of Justice Award.

There will be a luncheon in Webb’s honor at noon Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Fargo. Webb is the senior federal judge in North Dakota.

The award is given to attorneys who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of protecting the rights of citizens and to the preservation of the civil justice system as embodied in the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,

Lubbock sets aside rivalry to help Fargo -  4/1/2009

A pancake rivalry between Texas and Fargo has
flipped into a friendship.

The same Lubbock Lions Club that recently reclaimed the world record for the most pancakes served in eight hours from the Fargo Kiwanis Club is using proceeds from the record-shattering pancake feed to help with the flood fight.

The Texas club will send $5,000 to the Salvation Army in Fargo.

“Short of sending ourselves, which is what our first choice would have been, we’ll send money,”

Record effort falls short at Kiwanis Pancake Karnival

Attendance sets mark, just not pancakes served

The people turned out for the pancakes, but the griddles just couldn’t keep up. 

The Fargo Kiwanis Club fell short Saturday in topping its Guinness World Record for the number of pancakes served in eight hours, though a record number of people turned out for the 51st annual Pancake Karnival, held for the first time at the Fargodome.

Volunteers link up to keep pancakes moving -  2/15/2009
Greatness.  Pancake.

Two words not typically used in the same sentence.  But once a year in Fargo, they're appropriate together.  What other words would describe the Annual Kiwanis Pancake Karnival, which, this year drew a crowd of 16,590.  That's more than 10 percent of the population of Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and Dilworth, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.

It's a massive logistical undertaking.  A network of more than 500 volunteers pitched in to make the event

Fargo's odds stacking up for pancake feed record -  1/8/2009

People will eat pancakes. A world record may fall. And one lucky couple may tie the knot – for batter or for worse.

Fargo’s Kiwanis Club hopes that moving the 51st annual Pancake Karnival to the Fargodome on Feb. 14 will help break the world record of 34,818 pancakes served in an eight-hour period, set during last year’s pancake feed at the Fargo Civic Center.

In a syrupy-sweet touch to the Valentine’s Day event, if a couple agree to get married at the pancake feed, they’ll receive a free tuxedo

The Fargo Kiwanis Club has awarded grants to the following organizations and their youth-related projects:

- YWCA, $2,600
- MeritCare Foundation, $2,500
- Fraser Ltd., $2,000
- Red River Children’s Advocacy Center, $1,000
- Moorhead Healthy Community Initiative, $500

The club has donated more than $700,000 to support charities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.



Group takes Aktion -  8/14/2008

David DeWall accepted a club banner, gavel and bell Wednesday just minutes after he was installed as president of Fargo-Moorhead’s newest Kiwanis Club.

The Fargo man, who has never held a presidency before, was all smiles as he accepted the tools he will need to conduct F-M Aktion Club meetings at least once a month.

More than 100 people cheered for DeWall and other club officers recognized at a club

Fargo Kiwanis Sets Guinness World Record -  2/9/2008
We made it. The Community, Fargo Kiwanis member and over 300 plus volunteers came out on a blizzard day to felp set a new Guinness World Record. We are now the new record holder for The most pancakes made in 8 hours in the Guinness Book of World Records. The old record was 30,724 and the new record is now 34,818. Way to go. Thanks to all the volunteers, all Fargo Kiwanis members and the whole community for making this a reality.
